Synopsis About time

Dante at midnight on New Year’s Eve 2008 kisses a stranger named Alice mistaking her for his girlfriend. From that moment the two got engaged and a few years later they also went to live together. The couple are very happy and in love, but Dante, a true workaholic, is unable to manage his time, almost always prioritizing work and neglecting affections. He, however, does not see it that way, on the contrary, he thinks that it is thanks to the many hours devoted to work that one day he will be able to “buy” more time. He’s the typical person who always arrives late and that’s what will also happen at his surprise 40th birthday party.

After the celebrations are over, the next morning, he wakes up the same day a year later. How is it possible? How is it possible that Alice is pregnant and he hasn’t noticed anything, doesn’t remember anything? He remains a prisoner of this time loop for a long time, forced to relive his birthday year after year, but in the space of a single day. Until he finally opens his eyes and realizes that everything he’s ever taken for granted in his life deserves more time.

The Romantic Comedy’s Backstory Revealed By Director Alessandro Aronadio

Alessandro Aronadio, director but also screenwriter of the film, reveals how he approached the writing of the remake: “The rewriting process was quite brutal compared to the original film. In the sense that when the idea of ​​a remake m was proposed, I was initially not in favor of making a non-original film. But Long story short had an idea that I was very intrigued about, namely that of time jumping. Another factor, then, which convinced me to accept was the fact of being able to measure myself with the genre of romantic comedy, which I particularly like, with an expedient already treated 1000 times in the cinema, however, the attempt was to do it .. to a different way. And so I proposed to the producers to rewrite practically the whole film. In fact, jokingly I say that instead of a remake it’s a make. It was a fun challenge and the goal was also to find an original key”.

Era Ora is a funny comedy with a dramatic tone at the same time. In this regard, the director declares: “I believe that a comedy worthy of the name must always start from an ingredient that hurts. We started from this postulate: from the fact that comedy allows us to exorcise the anguish that we have. One of the things that we Italians do best is laugh at our fears. Being able to turn tragedies into comedy is the job that we try to do through cinema. In the end, this is not just a film with a fantastic premise, in fact, the viewer at some point realizes that he too is following the same path as Dante: time may pass too quickly”.
