What does the confirmation of Simona Malpezzi as president of the group in the Senate represent?
“It is first of all a recognition of the work accomplished and of Simona’s ability to hold on, to listen and to represent a point of balance. Second, as we head into convention, confirming outgoing members seems like a common sense choice to me. Then, on the basis of the congress, the next secretary will intervene on the structure of the groups, in the manner he deems appropriate”;

So is it possible that the choices of Malpezzi and Debora Serracchiani (president of the group in the Chamber) could have changed after the congress of the Democratic Party?
“Congress will elect a new leadership group that I believe wants and should have a say in the choice of groups. This does not mean that Serracchiani and Malpezzi are group leaders in the long term, but that in this phase, reconfirming the outgoing members was the most rational choice to make”;

The Democratic Party is a path started a year and a half ago with Malpezzi and Serracchiani”;

Do the Pd and the M5S come together?
“I don’t know. I hope that once the group leaders are elected, we will start talking. And that tomorrow the oppositions come forward with the elections of vice-presidents, quaestors and secretaries, avoiding give way to the majority”;
