Starting this Wednesday the 16th, VIVA will broadcast for the first time one of the most emblematic Mexican telenovelas: ‘Maria do Bairro’. Phenomenon on the small screen, the plot was recorded in 1995 and completed, with María Mercedes (1992) and Marimar (1994), the so-called “Trilogy of the Marias”, a series of adaptations of the stories of Inés Rodena , with the singer and actress Thalía as the protagonist, playing the characters “Marias”.
Directed by Beatriz Sheridan, the soap opera is marked by instances of solidarity, frustration and love, based on the life story of Maria Hernández Lorráz (Thalía), a humble and dreamy young woman who works as a collector of materials recyclable in a landfill. When her godmother Cacilda (Aurora Molina) dies, the young girl is welcomed by the generous businessman Fernando de la Vega (Ricardo Blume), patriarch of one of the most powerful families in Mexico. At the mansion, Maria falls in love with Luís Fernando (Fernando Colunga), Fernando and Vitória’s (Irán Eory) eldest son.
The filming of “Maria do Bairro” took place in the studio, while the exteriors were recorded in the upscale neighborhood of Lomas de Chapultepec, where the De La Vega mansion was located. The dump scenes were shot in Mexico City’s largest landfill, where several families living in extreme poverty lived and did the same work as the main character. From there, the crew and cast mobilized to collect groceries, toys, and personal hygiene items to donate to collectors who lived in those surroundings.
The series will be broadcast Monday to Friday, from 8:30 p.m. It is also possible to accompany him in the marathons on Saturday, from 8:45 am.
