Long before entering the world of superheroes with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ and ‘The Suicide Squad’, James Gunn was the screenwriter of the first ‘Scooby-Doo!’ films, inspired by the studio’s beloved animation. Hanna Barbera.
Released in 2002 and 2004, the films starred Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini in the Mystery Inc. gang.
Together, the titles have grossed $456.9 million from Warner Bros. coffers, and fans of the adaptation would love to see the cast reunite again to close out the trilogy.
Well, it looks like Gunn is convinced he could do a “Scooby-Doo 3!” and said the plans could work out if the cast supported the idea…
It all started when journalist Brian Particelli shared an interview in which Lillard the Shaggy said he would like to join his colleagues for another film.
Prinze Jr., who played Fred Jones, also shared the interview and said:
Have fun watching:
“Rightly or wrongly, they don’t have the guts to make this movie.”

It turns out the conversation caught the attention of Gunn, who wrote a hopeful comment but made it clear he was too busy to seriously think about it right now.
Check:
“I think they would if we asked them. But I don’t think I have the time right now!

As Gunn mentioned, he remains busy as he works on post-production on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3′, and will then begin production on yet another DC Comics-based TV series.
Either way, it’s good news that he and the cast are interested in what’s next.
Until then, it’s worth remembering that HBO Max and Cartoon Network announced the production of ‘Scooby-Doo! And the Mystery Pups’, an upcoming animated series aimed at children.
According to information from Deadline, the production of Warner Animation will accompany Scooby and Shaggy as counselors in a summer camp and, with three puppies who attend the camp, will form a children’s version of Mystery Inc.
Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard will voice Scooby and Shaggy respectively.
“This show combines everything we love about Scooby – his humor, his loyal friendship with Shaggy, his mysterious spirit – all in an innovative and accessible format for preschoolers. Parents and caregivers will be able to introduce children their beloved childhood hero in a whole new way,” said Amy Friedman, Head of Children’s Programming at Warner.
Mark Palmer is producer and showrunner for ‘Scooby-Doo! And the Mystery Pups’, which will debut on the Cartoonito block in 2024.
