Since 2019, enthusiasts have been anticipating the return of another Mindhunter season. Since the beginning, the show has kept us on the edge of our seats. But the wait is getting long.
And with such a long wait leads to the question of whether Mindhunter season 3 will ever be released. The plot of Mindhunter revolves around the late 1970s establishment of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit and the early stages of criminal profiling.
Catching a criminal frequently necessitates officials getting inside the villain’s head to figure out how he thinks. That is the responsibility of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench.
They investigate serial killers’ broken emotional states in order to understand and catch them. Now that’s the kind of narrative we don’t always get to see.
The psychological crime thriller show ‘Mindhunter’ is not returning for season 3. There will be no more stories or discoveries from Holden Ford and Bill Tench.
The show received positive feedback from the audience, but there is a reason for its cancellation.
David Fincher explained the reason behind the cancellation of the show and confirmed that a third season is not possible now. He also noted that it was an expensive show and that according to Netflix, it did not attract a lot of audiences.
He said, “I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment.
I don’t blame them, they took risks to get the show off the ground, gave me the means to do Mank the way I wanted to do it and they allowed me to venture down new paths with The Killer. It’s a blessing to be able to work with people who are capable of boldness.
The day our desires are not the same, we have to be honest about parting ways.”
The Team Of ‘Mindhunter’ Has Been Rooting For Season 3
Though the third season will not take place, the team has hoped for it.
Erik Messerschmidt said, “I’ve heard things are on hold for a little bit. We’ll see. Who knows? But it would be an honor to go back. I love working with David and adore the cast and the crew, and it’s been an incredible period of my life for certain.
I’ve been really blessed to have the opportunity to work on it and contribute to it. It’s been particularly important and poignant in my career. But yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going on.”
Fincher also stated once again, “I don’t know if it makes sense to continue. It had a very passionate audience, but we never got the numbers that justified the cost.”
The Showrunner Of ‘Mindhunter’ Needed Some Time
In another statement, Fincher stated that he needed some time.
“I certainly needed some time away. We had all hands on deck to finish [season two] and we didn’t have a ton of scripts and a ton of outlines and a bible standing by for season three.
I’ll admit I was a little bit like ‘I don’t know that I’m ready to spend another two years in the crawl space.’”
He also talked about revisiting the show at some point. And this gives the spectators a ray of hope.
“At some point, I’d love to revisit it,” says Fincher. “The hope was to get all the way up to the late ’90s, early 2000s, hopefully, get all the way up to people knocking on the door at Dennis Rader’s house.”
Knowing about the cancelation of the show is definitely upsetting. But we will keep you posted if there are any changes in the development of season three.
