The daughter of a sales representative and a policeman, Olivia Cooke was born around Christmas 1993 in Oldham, Manchester, England. She started acting at an early age and later entered Oldham Sixth Form College, which opened a year before Olivia was born, to study drama. During her training, she was the protagonist of a play which was a kind of remake of the classic Cinderella. She applied to the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), reached the final round of auditions, but was not accepted. But this did not shake her, and she continued her career.
Olivia has appeared in series and promotional videos, including the video for a tour of British band One Direction as a student hitchhiking with Harry Styles. After landing a few roles in British sitcoms, she left for the United States. She submitted an audition tape for the role of Emma Decody (Motel Bates), a few weeks later she learned she was cast! This job brought her closer to global success. Recently she was in the big show Slow Horses, in the spectacular Prime Video movie The Sound of Silence, always putting her performances in the spotlight. In 2022, she debuted as the adult version of Alicent Hightower in the hit HBO Max series House of the Dragon.

The sound of silence

His only friend is Earl (RJ Cyler), another very lonely young man, together they enjoy spending their free time producing bizarre film adaptations. Apocalypse Now, A Clockwork Orange, many movie classics get their versions in the minds of young friends. One day, Greg’s mother announces that one of her school friends, Rachel (Olivia Cooke) has cancer and asks her to approach her for help in this difficult time. In the plot, we meet the Slow Horses, a group of British intelligence agents who have been sidelined, going to a kind of second local spy division. This group is led by the enigmatic Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), a man with a mysterious past, rather arrogant, who hides secrets. One day, the group uncovers a thorny plot that involves high-level lies and the kidnapping of a young man. Thus, their destiny meets the powerful Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), one of the leaders of an MI5 sector. Here Cooke makes a small but significant turnout and with chances of reappearing in future seasons. It’s on Apple TV+.
Bates Motel
The acclaimed series takes us through the lives of Norma and Norman Bates, mother and son. After her husband’s death, Norma moves in with her son and they buy an abandoned motel. In five seasons, we follow the trajectory of these two, in a sort of prologue to the film Psycho, the latter based on the homonymous novel written by Robert Bloch. Olivia Cooke appeared in almost 50 episodes playing the character of Emma Decody who, in the story, has cystic fibrosis. The series is available on Globoplay.
