‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Surpasses ‘Titanic’ as 7th Highest-Grossing Film in US

By July, “Top Gun: Maverick” had already overtaken “Titanic” as Paramount Pictures’ highest-grossing film in the United States and Canada.

Now, the sequel starring Tom Cruise has taken its place as the 7th highest-grossing film in American history with $662.5 million.

The James Cameron-directed drama grossed $600.7 million domestically when it was released in 1998.

Additionally, “Top Gun: Maverick” is only a few steps away from overtaking “Avengers: Infinity War,” which currently has the 6th highest grossing in the country at $678 million.

The list of top five domestic releases of all time includes “Black Panther” ($700 million), “Avatar” ($760 million), “Spider-Man: No Coming Home” ($804 million), ” Avengers: Endgame” ($853). million) and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936 million).

In the world rankings, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ still has a long way to go to reach the feet of ‘Titanic’.

Remember that the classic which tells the love story between Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) holds the record for the 3rd most profitable film in the world, with 2.2 billion US dollars.

In first place comes ‘Avatar’, also from Cameron, with 2.8 billion dollars. Second place goes to “Avengers: Endgame” ($2.7 billion).

At the international box office, “Top Gun: Maverick” has already grossed $1.3 billion.

It should be remembered that the feature film also represents the largest collection – national, international and worldwide – of the career of star Tom Cruise.
