Breakfast in Beijing
The initiative was born with the Manzoni Idee project which sees illustrious university professors stage philosophy, music, literature and poetry. In this context, Scrittori in Scena represents an alternative way of experiencing theater and making it a place of meeting and sharing. The presentation of the book Breakfast in Beijing – Dreams and nightmares of a timeless empire by Siegmund Ginzberg, published by Feltrinelli, will kick off the new series of meetings for writers on stage on Tuesday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. On stage, besides the author, also the journalist and former deputy Furio Colombo; to lead Barbara Alighiero, journalist and former Ansa correspondent in China and the Middle East.
Siegmund Ginzberg was a correspondent in China from 1980 to 1987. And after a while, he decided to tell it through an original thread: cooking. “Because – as the note that launches the new edition of Scrittori in Scena writes – we are all what we eat. But maybe the Chinese are a little more so than the others”. This is how the author tells China with its rhythms on the table and with its flavors. But also with its dialects and its vast culture. “Only two things unite the Chinese, from one end of the Middle Empire to the other: the written language and the time at which the chopsticks are held”. So Siegmund Ginzberg, who lived through this China, decided to tell what has changed and what has remained unchanged.
