Recently, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Disney was developing a new movie centered around the figure of Mia Thermopolis, the young princess and later ruler of the fictional kingdom of Genovia. The news comes almost twenty years after the release of Prince Charming, released in theaters in 2004 and directed, like the previous chapter, by Garry Marshall. To carry the role of the protagonist was Anne Hathaway, who, from the 2001 film, became internationally famous.

Most young viewers who have seen Pretty Princess (The Princess Diaries) at least once will surely have dreamed of playing the role of 15-year-old Mia Thermopolis. A clumsy teenager and targeted by the most popular classmates, the young woman discovers that she is in fact a princess. Heir to the throne of the – fictitious – principality of Genoa, he learns of his noble origins thanks to his grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews). It will therefore be up to him to learn the ceremonial and to follow the lessons of etiquette, but in the greatest secrecy, to escape the press.

Based on the homonymous series of novels by Meg Cabot, Pretty Princess has met with good success with the public and critics. More muted, however, was the reception given to the sequel, Prince Charming Wanted, which hit theaters in 2004. Nevertheless, it would seem that the story of Mia Thermopolis, now ruler of the principality of Genoa, has yet to be told. The project was indeed described as a continuation of The Queen, played by Anne Hathaway, and uses the writing of Aadrita Mukerji.

The third installment will also see the return of Debra Martin as producer, while Melissa Stack will serve as executive producer.
