While Paramount had the biggest hit of the year with the highly acclaimed “Top Gun: Maverick” and Disney has already released two of its latest Marvel Cinematic Universe titles, Universal was the studio that topped the 2022 box office. .
Last weekend, the company announced that it had surpassed $3 billion in worldwide gross in the first seven months of the year, becoming the first studio to achieve the feat.
By 2019, four studios had managed to pass the milestone, but theaters are still reeling from the hit they’ve taken from the COVID-19 pandemic – meaning business is still getting back to normal.
Universal’s success is based on two main blockbusters: “Jurassic World: Dominion”, the last chapter of the recent trilogy, which brought in no less than $976 million worldwide; and the sequel “Minions 2: Rise of Gru”, which also caused a stir and reached the $790 million mark worldwide. These two bonds alone guaranteed the company an amount of 1.76 billion US dollars.
Other titles also secured the studio’s dominance this year, including “Mean Guys” ($246 million), “The Black Phone” ($152 million) and “No! Do not look!’ ($113 million in just a few weeks).
Have fun watching:
It should be remembered that Universal’s program also includes more productions that should become box office hits, including “Halloween Ends” and “Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish”, both from franchises beloved by the audience.
