Tension is an element that, when constructed well, is very welcome in films of various genres, such as thriller, horror, and even drama and adventure. This weekend, CinePOP points to five films that know how to work the tension and all of which are available on Amazon Prime Video. Check!
Thesilenceofthelambs
Known for Anthony Hopkins’ terrifying performance, The Silence of the Lambs features a series of brutal and violent murders of women perpetrated by a mysterious serial killer. In an attempt to figure out how the killer’s mind works, the FBI sends an intern to interview an incarcerated psychopath, the terrifying Hannibal Lecter. So, as the crimes continue, the conversations with the cannibal escalate, and the question remains as to what extent he helps the FBI or helps himself attempt to escape from prison.
We need to talk about Kevin
Before beating the fans and terrorizing the people of Hawaii, Ezra Miller played the young and psychotic Kevin, responsible for a massacre at the school where he was studying. The film follows the story of her mother, Eva, from meeting her husband to dealing with the aftermath of having a general child murderer. It’s very tense to see the signs of psychopathy in Kevin since childhood and it’s heartbreaking to see how his mother goes from bestselling author to persona non grata in just a few years.
a quiet place
In this story, the world has been invaded by strange creatures that are blood-hungry and extremely sensitive to sound. So whoever wants to stay alive must make as little noise as possible. Given this, the film follows a family who lose a baby after setting off a noisy toy. Traumatized by the death of their son, parents and siblings try to live in supreme silence, but it is far from easy.
The witch
This period horror tale follows a Puritan family in the 17th century, who find land and establish their lives there. However, after an alleged forest witch steals and eats the family’s baby, who was under the watchful eye of the eldest daughter, they begin to believe that not only is the land cursed, but the daughter is also a witch. The tension of the story is that most events considered supernatural are very similar to the prejudices and diseases of the time, so the question remains to what extent it is about witchcraft and possession or just time limitations ?
Have fun watching:
