According to Deadline, Warner Bros. hired director Adam Wingard (“Godzilla vs. Kong“) to direct a “Thundercats” movie.
The feature film will be CGI (computer generated images) animation and follow a plot inspired by the classic 1980s series.
The screenplay written by Simon Barrett (‘VHS’) accompanies the team of feline humanoids formed by Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, Jaga, Willy Kit, Willy Kat and Snarf on a long journey as they leave the dying planet of Thundera. looking for a new home for your species.
They settle on a planet known as Third Earth, where they fight against Mumm-Ra and his former enemies, the Mutants, for control of Lion-O’s Justiceira sword.
The production is in charge of Dan Lin and Roy Lee, representatives of RideBack and Vertigo Entertainment respectively.
In an interview with the portal, Wingard celebrated the news by saying:
“’Thundercats’ is a dream project of mine. When I was in high school, I was obsessed with them. I want to make a film that takes us back to the aesthetic of the 80s. I don’t want to reinvent how they look. I want them to look like the characters we know. I don’t want to do live action either. I don’t want to make the same mistake that happened to ‘Cats’.
