David Harbor (“Stranger Things”) made his MCU debut in “Black Widow,” playing Alexei Shostakov, the Red Guardian, a Russian version of Captain America.
And the character will be back in the movie as the ‘Thunderbolts,’ a team formed by MCU anti-heroes like Yelena Belova, Winter Soldier, American Agent, Taskmaster, and the Ghost.
The group’s first official image was revealed during D23, showing the Red Guardian in a new costume.
In an interview with Marvel’s official website (via Comic Book), Harbor seemed very excited about the updated look.
“In season, [de ‘Viúva Negra‘] I was told that I would come back anyway and with a new costume. And I don’t want to say that “F” word, but I’m really excited about it. You watch Captain America and you see him in all these different movies, sporting this white star on his chest. And I’ll be with a black star, which I thought f#d*.”
Enjoy watching:
Harbor has previously said he’s a huge Red Guardian fan and can’t wait to see more of it on the big or small screen.
“I wish there were more Red Guardian, and I would love fans to support this campaign because it still generates influence,” he told Variety. I love the character, there’s so much you can do with him. There’s this 25-year gap where we don’t know who he was.
He continued:
“What happens to him after ‘Black Widow’? Why wasn’t he fighting Thanos? I hope there will be interest in knowing more about him.

Remember that Yelena Belova, a character played by Florence Pugh (“Midsommar”) will be the team leader.
Some of the ‘Thunderbolts’ roster had previously been revealed by Deadline reporter Justin Kroll, who said firsthand that Yelena Belova would lead the group.
Jake Schreier (Frank and the Robot) is set to direct, while Eric Pearson (Black Widow) is in charge of the screenplay.
“Thunderbolts” will conclude Phase 5 of the MCU, with the premiere scheduled for July 26, 2024.
