Fede Álvarez, director of “The Death of the Devil” and “The Man in the Dark”, is producing the new version.
Alvarez explained this new vision of Leatherface to EW:
“It’s basically the same character, who is still alive. Our opinion is that this guy probably disappeared after everything he did. You know, how do you catch a guy with a mask on? Once he takes off his mask and runs away, it is very easy for him to hide somewhere. This story will catch up with you many years after the original story. He’s been hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person.
The plot will take place years after the shocking events of the original film, in a setting Leatherface has not seen since.
Mark Burnham (‘Lowlife’) will play the new Leatherface. David Blue Garcia (‘Tejano’) is responsible for the management.
The cast also includes Elsie Fisher (“Eighth Year”), Sarah Yarkin (“Death Congratulates You 2”), Jacob Latimore (“Maze Runner: Run or Die”) and Moe Dunford (“Vikings”).
Chris Thomas Devlin, known for his horror work “Cobweb“, wrote the screenplay for the new film.
