The drama “ The Sound of Silence ” may have passed relatively far off the mainstream radar, but it was remembered at the biggest awards of the year – including BAFTA 2021.
The feature film starring Riz Ahmed won two statuettes in the last edition: Best Edition, winning the favorite “Nomadland”, and Best Sound Edition, approaching the Oscars.
The film is directed by Darius Marder and premiered last year at the Toronto Film Festival.
During a series of adrenaline-filled shows, traveling punk-metal drummer Ruben (Ahmed) begins to suffer from intermittent hearing loss. When an expert tells him that his condition will worsen considerably, he considers his career and his life to be over. His partner and girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke) takes the former cocaine addict to a deaf clinic to prevent him from failing and help him adjust to the new condition. However, after being welcomed with open arms by this community, Ruben must choose between his balance and the need to claim the life he once had.
Paul Raci, Lauren Ridloff and Mathieu Amalric complete the cast.
