According to Variety, Vanessa Kirby has been chosen for the upcoming drama “The Son”, directed by Florian Zeller, nominated for an Oscar for Best Director for the famous “My Father”.
Kirby, who was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for “Pieces of a Woman”, joins Laura Dern (“Story of a Wedding”) and Hugh Jackman (“The King of the Show”).
Recalling that, like ‘My Father,’ The Son ‘will be adapted by Zeller from his own play, staged for the first time in 2019.
Co-written by Zeller and Christopher Hampton (“Adoration”), the feature film accompanies Peter, who sees his eventful life with his new partner, Emma, and their baby, transformed with the return of his ex-wife, Kate. She appears with the couple’s teenage son Nicholas, a troubled, difficult-to-talk, aggressive, and aloof young man – who has just dropped out of school. Peter will do anything to help the boy, but the weight of his condition will put the whole family on a tricky and dangerous path.
The second film in Zeller’s career – who is a playwright – will be produced by Oscar winners Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, as well as Joanna Laurie of See-Saw Films. Film4 is co-producing the project.
Florian Zeller has gained worldwide recognition for his impeccable work scripting and directing his first film, ‘My Father’, which follows the complex and delicate journey of an elderly person in his or her maturity phase.
The feature film stars Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman, who received Oscar nominations for their outstanding performances.
In total, “My Father” won six nominations for the coveted statuette, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
