‘The rings of power’ | After ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Find out which epic franchises could also win a series

on

The first series based on the epic The Lord of the Rings recently debuted on Amazon Prime Video to rave reviews from the trade press. Despite the glamor with critics, some audiences guaranteed the usual mimi and groans – thanks in large part to the presence of a female protagonist setting the tone for the adventure story. Fans, meanwhile, embraced the production and recognized its exquisite craftsmanship. One of the most discussed topics about the series is the visual quality and its overproduction content. The Rings of Power is said to be the most expensive series in television history, with $1 billion in production. Such an investment paid off, as the show quickly became the streaming platform’s biggest hit, being Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched production in its first 24-hour premiere.

The Lord of the Rings is one of the most profitable properties today and the success of a new product with this brand was to be expected. With that in mind, we decided to have some fun and bring you some other epic movie franchises that could very well be adapted for this new phase of streaming TV series. Check it out below.

One of the most iconic and beloved movie trilogies of all time, The Godfather is also considered cinema’s best mafia film. To this day, no one has dared to touch the property with the blasphemy of a remake or another sequel. But what we can say is that the franchise has recently returned to the front of the stage. In addition to a new version for the third film to be released in 2020, this year we had the series debut of The Offer, from Paramount Pictures itself, which reveals behind the scenes of the production, including in its narrative characters such as Francis Ford Coppola and Marlon Brando, for example. . Other than that, the movie Francis and the Godfather is set to release soon, also focused on producing the absolute classic, starring Jake Gyllenhall, Elle Fanning, Elisabeth Moss, and Oscar Isaac as Coppola. That way, it would be the perfect hook for Paramount to do another show to boost its streaming, even better if it had Coppola’s own production and direction in some episodes. the series could focus on the trilogy characters themselves, i.e. the Corleone family at some point in their lives, whether it’s Vito’s empire building in the past, Sony, Michael or even events after the third film. All of this, of course, with respect for the fans.

Enjoy watching:

When the first Pirates of the Caribbean hit theaters, the third Lord of the Rings also opened in theaters, bringing the trilogy to an end. The Disney Pirates movie was also becoming a phenomenon and spawning its own franchise, with parts two and three filming at the same time, taking the hook from Peter Jackson’s overproduction. After that, two more Pirates of the Caribbean were released, but with each new copy the franchise’s strength waned – partly due to star Johnny Depp’s shaken popularity. Today, we cannot say that Depp has regained his prestige, on the contrary, things may have gotten worse for the actor. Precisely for this reason, Disney broke with the star of one of its most profitable franchises, and rumors swirled about the possible entry of Margot Robbie at the helm of a reboot of Pirates of the Caribbean, without anything happening. be officially confirmed. Given all this controversy and the recent success of Rings of Power, one solution for Disney would be to bring the franchise to the Disney+ platform as a millionaire program.

For many movie buffs, you can’t think of Lord of the Rings without talking about Harry Potter. It turns out that the first copies of both franchises were released in the same year, 2001, and together they were responsible for the next wave of success in the fantasy adventure genre. Harry Potter, of course, aimed at younger audiences and children, has spawned a series of eight films and currently has its own spin-off with Fantastic Beasts, which in 2022 launched its third feature film. But behold, the “damn” Johnny Depp appears in another multi-power franchise, this one from Warner. In the third Fantastic Beasts, the star was even replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. A fourth film is still planned. We don’t know if the franchise will stop after that in the cinema. Anyway, the wizarding universe created by JK Rowling is so rich, detailed and vast that it could easily expand to new projects and one of them could be a TV series for HBO Max ( or rather, the upcoming streaming replacement.) taking place in any timeline the filmmakers desire.

Going back to Disney, Mickey’s studio bought Fox as everyone knows and turned it into 20th century studios. Since then, the new studio has touched on at least one of the great properties it inherited: The Predator. This year, with The Hunt, Disney through its subsidiary Hulu (USA) and Star+ (Brazil) achieved its greatest success on the platform. Disney really has the Midas touch. This same dedication could apply to the other alien assassin franchise obtained after the purchase agreement: Alien. The last installments of the franchise which function as prequels (Prometheus and Covenant) even under the name of Ridley Scott did not reach their target both at the box office and at the level of critics, and ended the third chapter of a trilogy still in the hands. of FOX. Now, with Disney, an interesting option would be a television series. The basis of the program could be any of the praised games of this brand, or even a series that revived filmmaker Neill Blomkamp’s idea for a direct sequel to Aliens (1986).

The current drama involving star Sylvester Stallone and producer Irwin Winkler is worthy of tabloid bullshit. In the modern world, it is not even necessary for the media to adopt a sensationalist tone, because sometimes the stars themselves adopt this attitude on their own. That’s what Sly did when he exposed on his social media the disagreement with his former producer and his family for creative control of the franchise the veteran actor created. It turns out that back then, when he was a young actor at the start of his career, Stallone signed a contract and to this day, the Winkler family has majority control of the character. In this way, many of Stallone’s plans for the iconic boxer were constantly thwarted. One of the most notorious was a prequel chronicling Rocky, Adrian, and Paulie’s youth in the Old Quarter where they grew up. Sly probably thought of this idea as a feature film, but in today’s world it could very well be adapted for a TV series. That is, if Stallone ever receives the rights to his creation or someone buys that idea.

Planet of the Apes is another wildly popular Fox franchise that Disney must be dying to get their hands on. Dating back to 1968, the classic sci-fi depicts an astronaut on a mission outside Earth, crash-landing on an inhospitable planet alongside other survivors, only to discover that there humanoid ape creatures rule and humans are enslaved. As everyone well knows, in the shocking result, we found out that such a planet was just Earth in the future. With five classic films, an animated series, a live-action series, a remake (by Tim Burton) and a new modern trilogy with top-notch effects, Planet of the Apes seems to have already been adapted in every way in audiovisual. But perhaps what was missing was a new approach in the form of a sitcom these days. We could easily see the material brought to Star+/Hulu as a more intense series set around the same time as the original 1968 film, as the most recent trilogy in theaters was a prequel.

In rounding out the list of classic movie franchises that deserved their own TV series, we bet on a genre that hadn’t made it to the list yet: comedy. After adventure, action, crime, suspense and even sci-fi franchises, a good choice would be a comedy series. And in this segment, few have been as successful as Rosa’s A Pantera Cor. The iconic Inspector Jacques Clouseau, immortalized by Peter Sellers, has been the protagonist of several films in the franchise, always showing his obvious ineptitude and incompetence when it comes to solving the most varied cases. The franchise went cartoon and got a reboot with Steve Martin as Clouseau. This new version with Martin even featured Beyonce on stage and on the soundtrack. In other words, the brand has already proven that it can be pop, and with the right directors, it can gain a new lease of life with a new audience – since it’s been sitting in the fridge for quite some time. .
