According to Deadline, Disney is officially developing “The Princess Diaries 3” sequel.
Aadrita Mukerji, of ‘Reacher’ and ‘Supergirl’, will be responsible for the screenplay.
Debra Martin Chase will return as producer on the new film alongside “Women on the Attack” comedy writer Melissa K. Stack.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, actresses Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are set to star in the new feature film.
Previously, Andrews commented on the possibility of a new movie:
Take the time to watch:
“I think it would be too late to do that now. There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago. But I don’t think that ever happened. And then Garry left us. Especially for me, it’s too far now to go back to that. It’s a nice thought, but I think it probably wouldn’t be possible.”
Julie Andrews referred to Garry Marshall, who directed both films in the series, who died in 2016. Writer, producer and director, Marshall also worked on other beloved films such as “Pretty Woman.”
Remembering that in 2019, Anne Hathaway revealed that there is a script for a sequel: “I wanted to do it, Julie Andrews wanted it, Deborah Martin Chase, our producer, wanted to do it. We all wanted it to happen. It’s just that we don’t want to do it unless it’s perfect because we love it as much as you do. It’s as important to us as it is to you.”
The Afternoon Session classic, “The Princess Diaries,” came out over 20 years ago and remains idolized. The film follows a young woman who eventually discovers that her grandmother is the queen of a country called Genovia, and she must now train to assume the throne.
