According to the Small Screen site, Burton wants Johnny Depp to play Gomez. The filmmaker considers the star to be “one of the few people who can do the character justice”, Mortícia’s husband.
As many already know, Burton is a great collaborator of Depp, who starred in several productions of the filmmaker, such as the classic “Edward Hands of Scissors” (1990).
But as he expresses his confidence in the star’s talents, it looks like Netflix reps have to be convinced about the cast.
The screenplay was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, best known for creating and producing the hit series “Smallville“.
For those who don’t know, the Addams Family was created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 as comic books for The New Yorker magazine. The characters have spawned live action and animated series, books, video games, and even a musical, which premiered in Brazil in 2012, starring Daniel Boaventura and Marisa Orth as couple Gomez and Morticia Addams.
In film, the creation gave birth to “The Addams Family”, a box office success in 1991, and, 2 years later, “The Addams Family II”, both directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia played the Addams couple. Christopher Lloyd played Uncle Fester and Christina Ricci played Wednesday Addams (Wandinha).
The third film, “The Return of the Addams Family,” was released direct on video in 1998.
