Prince William has posted a new Earthshot Prize video on his official Twitter account. The short clip shows the Prince of Wales walking through a garden while filming himself with his smartphone. A video-selfie with which he previewed the names of the 15 finalists for the second edition of the prize.
Inaugurated last year, the Earthshot is a prize awarded to innovative ideas for the environment. In the end, only five winners will be chosen from all the projects, which will be announced in Boston next month. For the occasion, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton will fly to the United States of America.

Among the 15 finalists, the idea of the Great Bubble Barrier from the Netherlands immediately caught the attention of the media. This is a machine that pumps air through a perforated tube to create a system capable of bringing all the plastic to the surface. An ingenious system that could help with waste collection. The UK is participating with a London start-up, Notpla Hard Material, which produces packaging made from seaweed and plants as an alternative to single-use plastics. Among the other finalists, the idea of an ecological stove stands out, as does that of leather made with dried flowers.

Unlike last year, an Italian exhibitor is missing among the finalists announced by Prince William in this edition. However, as in the previous edition, one project per category will be rewarded: protection and restoration of nature; clean our air; revive our oceans; building a world without waste; fix our climate. The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected in Boston, the hometown of President John F. Kennedy, who inspired the Prince to launch the idea.
