Fans of “Spider-Man” were speechless when they saw JK Simmons reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the post-credits scene of “Spider-Man: Away From Home“.

For those who don’t remember, the Oscar-winning actor played the editor of The Daily Clarim and one of the antagonists of Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) in all three feature films directed by Sam Raimi.

And it looks like Simmons himself was as stunned as audiences when asked to star in the sequel with Tom Holland.

As he appeared on the red carpet for “Spider-Man: No Return Home,” Simmons recalled the moment he received the phone call from Sony and revealed to Variety that he was shocked.

“It was a total shock. How we made the Sam Raimi trilogy, it was awesome, it was awesome, it was wonderful, but then they just moved on. I thought it was a great opportunity, but I had already said goodbye. And here I am… Sam is back in the Marvel Universe with “Doctor Strange in the Madness Multiverse”. It’s all beautiful.
