“Sandman”: the official page of the series promotes a magnificent fan art dedicated to Lucifer; Check!

Sandman debuted nearly a month ago, bringing iconic characters from Neil Gaiman’s comic books to life.

Among them, Lucifer himself, played by Gwendoline Christie.

And the adaptation’s official page posted some gorgeous fan art dedicated to the character, proving how much audiences enjoyed following the series.

In the attraction’s 4th episode, Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) travels to Hell in an attempt to retrieve his Helm of Dreams, which was acquired by a demon through a pact.

However, Lucifer tells Perpetual that he would only get out of Hell with the bar if he retrieved it in a duel against the demon, who chose Lucifer himself to represent him.

At the end of the duel, Morpheus emerges victorious and arouses the hatred of the fallen angel, who promises to make him pay for his insolence.

And it looks like the feud between the two entities will expand if there’s a second season of the attraction.

In an interview with Newsweek, comic book creator and adaptation consultant Neil Gaiman said:

“Our intention is to keep this story going. I feel like people are surprised and excited when they say that season 2 is going to start with the rematch between Lucifer and Dream. The truth is… They hardly know what’s going to happen and they’re just not prepared for it.

In the comics, Morpheus faces the very demon who is in possession of the helmet, but the creators of the adaptation thought it would be more considerate to show a clash against Lucifer, obviously.

Earlier, Gaiman justified the change saying that:

“If you bring in an actress like Gwendoline Christie playing Lucifer, you have to show why she was cast. We couldn’t bring her on this program and show her as just a witness to the Dream challenging her subjects.

“Sandman” is Neil Gaiman’s most popular creation and focuses on the mythical being Dream, a member of a group known as The Perpetuals or The Endless. As the name suggests, the comic book protagonist rules the dream world. The plot begins when he escapes his captivity, which lasted 70 years, and finds his kingdom dilapidated in the present day.

The cast includes Tom Sturridge (Dream), Vivienne Acheapong (Lucienne), Boyd Holbrook (Corinthian), Charles Dance (Roderick Burgess), Asim Chaudhry (Abel), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Cain), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death), Mason Alexander Park (Desire), Donna Preston (Despair), Jenna Coleman (Johanna Constantine), Niamh Walsh (Ethel Cripps) and Joely Richardson (Ethel).

Allan Heinberg (“Wonder Woman”) will serve as the series’ showrunner.

DC’s Vertigo comics imprint originally published the series between 1989 and 1996, with several additional series arriving in 2009 and between 2013 and 2015.
