Sanctuary by New Yorker Zachary Wigon made its theatrical debut in the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone spaces as part of the Rome Film Fest.
Some time ago, it was enough for a masochist to ask to be the object of the sexual satisfactions of the sadist. A single word, an imperative was enough to satisfy the sovereign. But today, the game of the couple promises to be more complex. Behind, something deeper could be hiding that touches strings that fuel an inner search to discover what a human being can do for a living. To enjoy the film Sanctuary without any embarrassment, all you have to do is follow your every move carefully and not miss any of the jokes that the dominatrix Rebecca played by Margaret Qualley and the client Hal exchange, a role entrusted to actor Christopher Jacob Abbott.

On the film directed by director Zachary Wigon, the two protagonists meet for what Hal considers the last time, in a room of a hotel of the chain which he is about to inherit after the death of his father. Hal thinks this relationship has become too dangerous and tries to end it by giving the fearless Rebecca a watch, but she doesn’t quite agree.
Sanctuary, just a war between the sexes? Wigon goes further
Between the dominatrix and the wealthy client a confrontation is triggered in which each of them undertakes to try to define his role. The “duel”, above all verbal, develops on several levels to the point of involving them in depth and beyond the limits. Are we talking about a war between the sexes? Zachary Wigon’s feature takes it a step further and it’s unclear if Hal wants to break off his relationship with Rebecca for personal or professional reasons. After an intense night, the balance between them shifts, they suffer emotional shocks and we no longer know which of the two holds the power. Intellectual temptation takes over and becomes the centerpiece of Wigon’s story. The roles are no longer defined and the spectator’s certainties are constantly called into question. The visual aspect is appreciable for certain camera movements although there is still an excess of verbiage.

It wasn’t recently that director Zachary Wigon had in mind to make a thriller featuring a dominatrix with his client. She talked about the total control a person (in this case the dominatrix) can have over their client. The murky game of sex, power and control is coming to cinemas.
