Royal family, new storm to come: Lady Diana has something to do with it. 25 years after her death, the princess is still controversial

On December 9, exactly thirty years will have passed since this announcement which had changed everything in the life of the royal family. The British Prime Minister at the time, John Major, communicated to the House of Commons that Charles and Diana were going their separate ways, with a joint decision.

A story that everyone knows about the form but perhaps not about the substance because in the years that followed, especially after the tragic death of Lady D, many unpublished details appeared. The latest were revealed by Patrick Jephson who was the princess’s press officer at the time.

Speaking on the new The Scandal Mongers podcast, which will be available on Spotify from next week, Jephson revealed a real plot against the future Queen of England while she was still living at court. According to him, some of Carlo’s staff were trying to make her look crazy.

The first glimpses were revealed by ‘Vanity Fair’: “These courtiers, some of whom are still in the service of the current King of England Charles III, made Diana’s life hell by spreading lies that she was suffering mental illness. They’ve planned everything down to the smallest detail.”

He cites as an example some systematic smear campaigns targeting the mental health of the princess. The news came out just as Charles was getting closer to Camilla Parker Bowles, a story everyone at court knew about and came as no surprise to anyone.

Jephson explains that he’s revealed everything now because Charles has become king and many of those involved are still around, though he doesn’t name any names. According to him, Lady D’s ex-husband was not directly involved, but he is certain that contrary to the rumors shrewdly spread, Diana always remained lucid.

“When she realized that courtiers were trying to smear her with allegations of mental instability, she started speaking publicly about her eating disorder. I can’t think of a better definition of mental health. I think that it was a sign of extraordinary strength which revealed all the wickedness of those who slandered Diana.” Lady Diana is still loved around the world (ANSA)

Yet even today there are people who doubted Lady D’s mental stability and because of this, her former press secretary decided to speak up, even though he was clearly late. According to him, despite all the pressures he had to face on a daily basis, the princess was one of the most mentally sound people he had ever known. And people should remember it that way.
