Robbie Coltrane, actor who died this Friday (14) at the age of 72, known for having played the half-giant Rubeus Hagrid in the films of the saga ‘Harry Potter’, and who also starred in the films of ‘James Bond’ saga and in ‘Flash Gordon’, took part in the 20th anniversary special of the saga’s launch, which featured testimonials from actors and production staff from all eight films.

In the special, he assessed the legacy left by history for generations to come and commented on his own death. Titled “Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts”, the special was recorded in 2021 and aired on January 1, 2022 on HBO Max, and features testimonials from actors including Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Tom Felton (Draco), Emma Watson (Hermione), Rupert Grint (Ron), among others.

At the time, 71 years old, the testimony of Robbie Coltrane is one of those which attract the most attention and cause the emotion of the public. Visibly discouraged and looking tired, the actor opened up about the legacy of the films and the character he immortalized, and recalled his own mortality in his speech.

“I think it’s the end of an era, it’s been 10 years of my life. My children grew up in this era. The legacy of the films is that my children’s generation will show them to their children. So easily , people will watch them in 50 years. I won’t be there unfortunately… [risos]. But Hagrid will be,” Coltrane said.

In 2006, Robbie received an honor from Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to British cinema.

Coltrane memorably conquered the television screen as forensic psychologist Dr. Edward ‘Fitz’ Coltrane in the television murder drama Cracker, for which he won three consecutive Best Actor BAFTA awards, a honor matched only by another actor, Michael Gambon.

His last work as an actor was playing Orson Welles in the series ‘Urban Myths’, in episodes released in 2019 and 2020.

Our condolences to the fans and the actor’s family.
