Rental bonus 2023: how it works and who can apply for help. While waiting for the Meloni government, it is the Regions that are moving
The housing problem in Italy affects millions of Italians, especially those who do not own one and who, by choice or necessity, live in rented accommodation. This is not currently an absolute priority for the Meloni government, but in the meantime the Regions are moving from Lombardy with the 2023 rental bonus.

Technically, it’s called “one-size-fits-all renting” and there’s good news. The Lombardy Region has decided to extend it for the whole of 2023, helping families in difficulty who live on rent in one of the municipalities which provides for the payment of the bonus. Overall, as indicated in the resolution approved by the Regional Council, the fund will amount to 48.16 million euros, disbursed directly by the Lombard municipalities.
The application can therefore be submitted by interested parties after the publication of the announcement in their municipality of residence, but in the meantime we know the basic rules. Families with a private tenancy agreement (including agreed rent) as well as those living in accommodation defined as “social housing services” can apply. Public housing services, transitional housing services and lease-to-own contracts are excluded.

So how does the 2023 rental bonus work? It covers 10 months’ rent, with a maximum expenditure ceiling of 3,600 euros per dwelling. In addition, the applicant must provide proof of an Isee of less than 35,000 euros and have signed the lease contract for at least six months.
To apply for the contribution, it is also necessary not to be the owner of a dwelling in Lombardy and not be subject to procedures for releasing the house. It will be a preferential criterion to be in possession of one of the following requirements, caused by the health emergency that Italy has been experiencing since 2020: loss of employment and non-renewal of fixed-term contracts.
