‘Queen Charlotte’: Monarch will suffer in ‘Bridgerton’ spin-off, reveals Shonda Rhimes

‘Queen Charlotte’, a ‘Bridgerton’ spin-off series that will focus on the iconic Queen Charlotte (originally played by Golda Rosheuvel), is coming to the Netflix catalog soon.

Now, while more production details are not being revealed, showrunner Shonda Rhimes has spoken to The Sunday Times about what fans can expect from the spin-off – saying all is not rosy for the young monarch.

“Queen Charlotte is an exaggerated presence,” she says. “She has everything she ever wanted, but she still carries a lot of pain.”

Unfortunately, Rhimes couldn’t tell you more about the production, which will star India Amarteifio as a new version of the queen.

Production is scheduled for 2023, still no confirmed date.

The production will also revolve around young Violet Bridgerton (played by Ruth Gemmell in the main work) and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh).

Michelle Fairley, Corey Mylchreest, Arsema Thomas, Sam Clemmett, Freddie Dennis, Richard Cunningham, Tunji Kasim, Rob Malone, Cyril Nri and Hugh Sachs round out the cast.

Shonda Rhimes is returning as executive producer alongside Betsy Beers and Tom Verica, and is expected to write the screenplay.
