The ‘Mortal Kombat’ reboot won its official synopsis and two other images:
In ‘Mortal Kombat’ MMA fighter Cole Young, used to getting beaten for money, is unaware of his legacy – or because Emperor Outworld Shang Tsung sent his best warrior, Sub- Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole. Fearing for the safety of his family, Cole sets out to find Sonya Blade and Jax, a special forces major who carries the same strange dragon that Cole was born with. Soon he finds himself in the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and Protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with seasoned warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and devious mercenary Kano, as he prepares to take on Earth’s greatest champions against enemies of Outworld in a high-risk battle across the universe. But will Cole be under enough pressure to unlock his arcane – the immense power in his soul – in time to not only save his family, but also stop Outworld once and for all?

According to Entertainment Weekly, ‘Mortal Kombat’ will begin with a ten-minute fight between Scorpion and Sub-Zero, when the two were still known as Hanzo Hasashi and Bi-Han. Combat takes place before a character wears their iconic outfit or acquires their unique abilities. The fight also establishes the reason why Scorpion and Sub-Zero and their respective clans look down on each other.
Simon McQuoid, the director of “Mortal Kombat”, describes the sequence as unbridled action full of “hand-to-hand combat“. McQuoid also explained that this opening is one of the main reasons he chose Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim as Scorpion and Sub-Zero, respectively. Each actor has extensive martial arts experience which allowed them to make this fight scene much better.
“It’s like a family drama with incredibly brutal fights. This is the frame of the movie for me, ”McQuoid said.
As for the scene itself, McQuoid also said he wanted the tale to be “told inside the fight.” Instead of conveying the blood feud between Scorpion and Sub-Zero entirely in words, the director apparently thought it was better for the battle to speak for itself.
The first takes place in April 2021, still without a specific day.
“Mortal Kombat” is written by Greg Russo and produced by James Wan. Simon McQuoid is leading the project.
The cast includes Joe Taslim (Sub Zero), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Mehcad Brroks (Jax) Josh Lawson (Kano), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Sisi Stringer (Mileena).
The soundtrack will be provided by Benjamin Wallfisch (“It: Chapter 2”).
The new feature will be for over 18 years, with the promise of a lot of violence and death.
Released in 1995, the first adaptation of “Mortal Kombat” had a budget of $ 18 million and grossed $ 122.1 million at the global box office. The sequel, “Mortal Kombat – Annihilation,” cost $ 30 million, but only raised $ 51.3 million worldwide. Both have been slaughtered by critics.
