After 18 years since ‘The Matrix Revolutions’, fans of the franchise will finally be able to embark on a new journey alongside Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) in the new film.
Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II told GQ the new movie is funnier than the original trilogy.
Abdul-Mateen plays Morpheus in the long-awaited sequel, replacing Laurence Fishburne.
“In terms of sounds, it’s a little different. It’s funnier and has more humor than the originals, ”he said.
Director Lana Wachowski revealed at the Berlin International Literature Festival that she came up with the idea to make the film after losing her parents and a friend.
“My father died, my friend died, then my mother died. I really didn’t know how to handle this kind of grief. I hadn’t experienced it up close … You know their life is going to end and yet it was very difficult. My brain always caught up with my imagination and one night I was crying and couldn’t sleep, and my brain blew this whole thing up. And I couldn’t have my mom and dad, but suddenly I got Neo and Trinity, arguably the two most important characters in my life. It was immediately heartwarming to find these two characters alive, and it’s super simple. You can look at it and say, “OK, these two people die and OK, bring these two people back to life and, oh, isn’t that good?” »Yes, it worked! It’s simple, and that’s what art does and that’s what stories do: they comfort us, ”he said.
