The highly anticipated “Casa Gucci” is Ridley Scott’s final film (“Blade Runner”) and the filmmaker’s second major release in 2021, after “The Last Duel”.
Based on the book “The Gucci House: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamor and Greed” by Sarah Gay Gorden, the film follows the real and shocking cases of envy, betrayal and revenge behind the Empire of famous Italian brand.
But despite expectations, ‘Casa Gucci’ is dividing reviews after it aired last night at the UK premiere.
Some comments point to the brilliant performances of Lady Gaga (Patrizia Reggiani), Jared Leto (Paolo Gucci) and Al Pacino (Aldo Gucci).
However, others reinforce the script’s exaggerations and the lack of creativity in driving the narrative, which ends up becoming a mess due to poorly edited scenes.
EW critics always say that Scott’s directing manages to turn a hard-hitting story into something tedious and only supported by the costumes and a few standout scenes.

GUCCI! #HouseOfGucci has a GODFATHER vibe, rich in family betrayal, transformative performances, lots of back stabbing and it’s definitely more serious than campy. Lady Gaga is amazing, just like Jared Leto, and the story is WILD! Attention to detail is impeccable pic.twitter.com/BphR07VLP5

“Gucci! “Casa Gucci” has a definite “The Godfather” vibe, rich in familiar lies, transformative performances, various betrayals and is definitely more serious than the camp. Lady Gaga is amazing, just like Jared Leto, and the story is awesome! The attention to detail is irreproachable ”.
House of Gucci is a bloated, uneven mess that looks like two different movies in one. Each member of the cast acts like they’re in a different movie, with the exception of Al Pacino, who seems to have got the mission and serves as the movie’s MVP. #MaisondeGucci pic.twitter.com/Y5NvVkNvqI

House of Gucci = Juicy Caviar Camp, an absurdly enjoyable Italian soap opera where Bald Jared Leto pisses on a Gucci scarf. He eventually eases his gas to one flaw, but Lady Gaga’s serious and fierce performance completes her evolution from movie star to powerful dramatic actress.

“’Casa Gucci’ = exaggerated delicious caviar, an absurdly fun Italian soap opera in which Jared Leto pisses on a Gucci scarf. The film ends up running out of steam, but Gaga’s fierce performance completes her evolution from movie star to iconic dramatic actress.
. @ HouseOfGucciMov is absolutely divine. It is terribly delicious. The cast delivers the best performances of the year. Luxuriate with Adam Driver and Lady Gaga whose chemistry and performance are phenomenal. The film is an actor masterclass. pic.twitter.com/PGmiZ1q05J

“’Casa Gucci’ is absolutely divine. It’s deliciously to kill. The cast offers the best performances of the year.
#HouseOfGucci is Shakespearean in its execution. A solid story of greed and thirst for success at all costs is peppered with tragicomic interludes – both entertaining in different ways. With solid performance, if campy and overloaded at times, it works but could do with a trim. pic.twitter.com/q7EAfqQpm0

Recalling that the film hits theaters on November 25.
“Casa Gucci” is inspired by the shocking true story of the family empire behind Italian fashion house Gucci. Spanning three decades of love, betrayal, decay, revenge, and ultimately murder, we see what a name means, what it matters, and how far a family must stay in control.
Also on the bill are Adam Driver, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney.
The plot is adapted from the non-fiction novel “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder Madness, Glamor, and Greed”.
