King Charles III’s job has almost always been to deal with Crown affairs and represent the royal family. Having spent most of his life as heir to the throne, it is not easy for him to be associated with anything other than his destiny as ruler. But he always had a great passion, which over the years has allowed him to earn a lot.
In fact, one of King Charles III’s favorite hobbies has earned him millions of pounds, according to British media. It’s not the first time he’s managed to earn huge sums other than as a member of the royal family, but it’s the first time he’s done so as a king.

Throughout his life, in fact, Carlo was a passionate painter, an expert in watercolours. Many shots show him painting as a young man. Over time, the former Prince of Wales specialized in landscape painting, showing some talent in the field.
King Charles’ fruitful passion for painting
Often overshadowed and sidelined by other types of events, King Charles III has always cultivated many passions related to the art world. In the years between 1997 and 2016, an investigation by Telegraph journalist Robert Mendick found that the King’s watercolors had sold for a total of £6 million. However, Prince Charles at the time did not keep all the profits for himself, but donated them to his charity, the Prince’s Foundation.

Despite this, King Charles himself does not regard his artistry as particularly impressive, having described himself in the past as an “enthusiastic amateur”. Earlier this year at the Garrison Chapel exhibition, he said: “I have no illusions that my sketches represent great art or flourishing talent. They represent, more than anything else, my particular form of photo album and, as such, they mean a lot to me”. As he repeatedly pointed out, painting is not a reason for him to win.

The king sees in his artistic work a hobby, an exercise to relax. But he is not the only one to cultivate artistic passions within the royal family. We all know, in fact, that Kate Middleton is passionate about photography. Indeed, he has been entrusted with family portraits for years, in particular those of his children George, Charlotte and Louis.
