‘Halloween Ends’ Director Says Laurie and Michael Myers Showdown Was Never Planned

Titled ‘Halloween Ends’, the final chapter of the trilogy started in 2018 has become very divisive and received a lot of negative feedback.

Much of the criticism is due to the diversion of attention to the franchise’s main characters, Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, who are seen as enemies here.

Although they are an important part of the plot, the film focuses on Corey Cunningham’s transition into a murderer and his relationship with Laurie’s granddaughter.

As a result, some fans were disappointed that the story didn’t end with a big showdown between Laurie and Michael.

However, writer-director David Gordon Green told Movie Maker that this idea was never considered.

Have fun watching:

“We had to decide how we wanted to end the story of these characters. Honestly, we never considered doing a film of Laurie and Michael facing each other. The idea that it should be a final fight never bothered us. crossed my mind. I wanted to see how far we could go…I wanted one to win and the other to die. But we’ve always been more ambitious about it, you know: to do what no one else what we would do: make a love story. For us, it was the thunderous ending that we had planned, opening our hearts to this community and these characters.

Rather than focusing on a major showdown between the franchise icons, the climax is how their roles in the city’s history have contributed to the birth of a new kind of evil. The story is about Haddonfield and how his neglect caused the cycle to repeat itself.

The filmmaker also revealed that the film’s ending had almost a direct reference to the ‘Halloween III’ sequel – infamous for featuring a completely different story and unrelated to Michael Myers: “There was an ending that I wrote, that we never got to film, which takes place in a Silver Shamrock factory as it creates these witch, skeleton, and pumpkin masks. So… the factory would start making Michael Myers masks. In the end , I felt the scene was just fan service for viewers who knew about Silver Shamrock.

It is worth remembering that ‘Halloween Ends’ did not please the public at all. In addition to a petition asking for a remake of the production, the film’s box office performance was also affected by the negative reactions.

In its second weekend of exposure, the Blumhouse film suffered a monstrous drop of -80%, grossing just $8 million in the United States.

From the top, the horror fell to fourth place at the North American box office, surpassed by “Sorria” ($8.4 million), which is currently in its fourth weekend.

And what was the reason for this fall? In addition to the film’s simultaneous release on Peacock’s streaming service – a strategy that has already proven unproductive for the films’ longevity on the big screen – the film also suffered great rejection from a sizable portion of viewers, reflecting a predominantly negative opinion. repercussion.

In the United States, “Halloween Ends” has already grossed $54.1 million. In the international market, it was 82 million US dollars.

In total, the production amounts to 82 million US dollars worldwide.

“Four years after the events of ‘Halloween Kills’, Laurie lives with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) as she finishes writing her memoir. Michael Myers has not been seen since. After being haunted by her presence for decades, Laurie is determined to let go of her fear and start living. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, the return of the violence and terror will force Laurie to finally face the evil she cannot control, once and for all.”
