External Night finally on Rai Uno: Bellocchio and the “new look” on Aldo Moro

After a brief tour of the room, Marco Bellocchio’s Exterior Night lands on the small screen in series format. The first series directed by the famous director was presented in preview at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, in the Cannes Première section, where it received a warm ovation.

Exterior Night arrives in Italian cinemas divided into two parts, distributed respectively on May 18 and June 9, on the occasion of the preview of the Cannes Film Festival. Starred by Fabrizio Gifuni as Aldo Moro, Margherita Buy (Eleonora), Toni Servillo (Paolo VI), Fausto Russo Alesi (Francesco Cossiga), Gabriel Montesi (Valerio Morucci), Daniela Marra (Adriana Faranda), the series will be broadcast November 14, 15 and 17 in prime time on Rai Uno.

Exterior Night, the first series from Marco Bellocchio – who, at 83, returns to acting – is the story of the tragic days of the kidnapping of Aldo Moro, seen through the multiple points of view of the characters who have it. been the protagonists of this tragedy and the victims. Marco Bellocchio, after Buongiorno, notte, returns to these dramatic pages of our history with a new original look: “This time I wanted to make a series of them to tell the Outsider these 55 Italian days staying out of prison except in the end, every tragic end. Outside the night because this time the protagonists are the men and women who acted outside the prison, implicated in various ways in the kidnapping: the family, the politicians, the priests, the pope, the professors, the magicians, the police, the secret services, the Red Brigades in freedom and in prison, even the mafia, the infiltrators”.

Hailed by the international press when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was greeted with ten minutes of applause, Exterior Night has been defined as “A Shakespearean drama in six acts” by Le Monde, “A great series that is also great cinema. Undoubtedly one of the events of the new season” of the Nouvel Observateur; while of the director, Liberation wrote: “Marco Bellocchio transforms lead into gold by revisiting a national trauma thanks to a masterful and ferocious series which above all resembles a film in six acts”. Exterior Night continues its international journey at the New York Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival.
