The “ Hawk and the Winter Soldier ” series follows at the top of its lungs, surprising Marvel fans with each new episode. And the character of John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell, starred in some of the production’s most controversial moments.
Under pressure to be the new Captain America, the military is divided between its principles, its past as a member of the United States military, and the responsibility of supporting Steve Rogers’ shield.
And in an EXCLUSIVE interview with our reporter Rafa Gomes, of CinePOP, the character performer commented on Walker’s journey and how he – as an actor – feels wearing the mantle of one of the most beloved heroes of Marvel.
Regarding the weight of Captain America’s shield for John Walker, Wyatt Russell reflects:
“It goes back to the expectations of the country, but in reality it is its expectations of itself and what it means to be Captain America. As a patriotic who wants to represent all that this means to the rest of the country, he wants to do good and represent the shield in the best possible way. He is trained to be a soldier and to do what soldiers do. He wasn’t trained to get involved and talk to people – get into character. The weight is overwhelming, until he decides that this can’t be everything for everyone and he will have to make it work ”.
The star also reflected on the feel and challenges of wearing the hero’s uniform, while performing his action scenes:
“For me that was the hardest part of everything. This is a five part chord that you will need some help getting used to. And you’re put in a position where you seem to be trapped in a casting and you’ve taken it hard on my shoulders – years of playing hokey have come screaming to haunt me. You have to get in shape just to support the weight of the costume. So you have to move, throw a shield and it seems impossible. But the costume puts you in a superhero pose that would be weird if you did without him. It definitely helps to create the character’s attitude ”.
