Everything We Know About ‘Firefly Lane’ Season 3

Firefly Lane is an incredible series that revolves around two amazing friends that goes through their ups and downs across 30 years. The name behind the series is that Tully and Kate meet as young girls on Firefly Lane. From teenage girls to all over their adulthood.

Since the release of the second season on December 2, 2022, enthusiasts have been wondering if there will be another season.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads, “Best friends Tully and Kate support each other through good times and bad with an unbreakable bond that carries them from their teens to their 40s.” Let’s get into the specifics.

Is There Going To Be ‘Firefly Lane’ Season 3?

It was already confirmed during the announcement of a second season that this season would be the series finale. That means there will be no third season of Firefly Lane. The series will be completed after the second season. But that doesn’t mean the story is done.

Part one of Firefly Lane Season 2 has only been released, but there will be a part two. In case you were concerned about the ending, there will be more stories. The second installment, which will conclude the story, will be released on June 8, 2023.

This part will have a total of seven episodes. And the cliffhanger will be resolved, leaving the audience with many unanswered questions.

The Reason Behind A Super-Sized Season

Season two of Firefly Lane is definitely a super-sized season and there’s a reason behind it. Friedman explained that season two was originally planned to have only 10 episodes, but that the proposal was altered for the better. The team didn’t want the story to end on a cliffhanger, so they planned for a super-sized season.

She explained, “Originally, season two was just going to be 10 episodes, but I was talking to one of the Netflix executives who’s been such a great champion of the show and said, ‘I know where the end of the story is’.

‘I know exactly what I want it to be.’ I just want to make sure that we get there and don’t end on a cliffhanger and then something happens and we don’t complete it.’ I wanted to make sure that I got to tell the full story.”

Jinny Howe Vice President of the Netflix drama series also said, “She wanted to tell the story in the two books. This felt like the most special and best way to deliver the series to the fans of the show while honoring Maggie’s vision at the same time.”

The Finale Of ‘Firefly Lane’ Is Going To Be Emotional

Sarah Chalke, the series’ star, revealed that the finale will be emotional and that audiences should be ready with tissues. Because they are going to need it. 

Sarah Chalke said, “You need some. I’m excited for everyone to see it. Season 1 created a lot of questions and then season 2, part 1 answered those, and now there are a lot more questions and all of those will be answered in the second half.

But there’s also lots of levity. One thing I love about the show is that there’s a balance between the heavy stuff and then there’s some humor woven in there, which I think is what you need so that you can actually exhale.”

Also added, “I can’t tell you obviously how it ends, you’ll have to watch and see, but everybody’s lives have been touched by cancer.”

The Connection Between The Finale And The Book

Maggie also talked about the finale of the series and the book. She said, “In the course of the series, we’ve created new characters. We’ve fleshed out characters that were in the book that were smaller. As a result, story threads have come up that are not in the book. So just by nature of that, there’s stuff that’s different.

There are also things that people will recognize. I’m not going to say what is what, as I don’t want to spoil anything plot-wise, but I’m so proud of these first nine episodes. I think that the last seven are even better and deeper and more emotional. I hope that people who watch the show are going to love them even more than they loved season two, part one.

There’s sadness and pain in it, and there’s also a lot of joy and resolution. It runs the gamut of all emotions. There are definitely things for people who love the book, and then there’s also going to be surprised if you know the book well. There always has been stuff that is new that you weren’t necessarily expecting because I think it’s fun to keep it fresh. 

I always knew where I wanted the series to end up and where the story was going. Hopefully, after the last seven, you’ll feel like, “Oh, that was a complete and really satisfying journey I went on.”
