Brendan Fraser’s performance in controversial and acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky’s new film ‘The Whale’ has been highly praised… And if it’s up to Dwayne Johnson, the star will win his first Oscar.

In an interview with MTV News, Dwayne revealed that he would love to see his friend and “The Mummy Returns” co-star win the biggest prize in cinema.

“I want him to go all the way. ‘I want to see him on stage at the Oscars, hold that award and deliver, I’m sure, what will be an incredible speech,’ he said.

Johnson made his film debut in 2001 in The Mummy Returns as the Scorpion King, the antagonist of Fraser’s Rick O’Connell. But for Johnson, it wasn’t just a situation where they were working on the movie together. Johnson explained that Fraser had to endorse Johnson to join the sequel and it was Fraser’s faith in him that helped propel his own career forward.

“I had just arrived from WWE. I had no acting experience except in WWE. I’ve never been on a movie set before and suddenly I’m in the middle of the Sahara desert doing The Mummy Returns. It meant a lot to me. So many years later, I’ve never forgotten it.

Fraser received a standing ovation for six minutes after the credits hit the big screen – which also brought him to tears.

Recently, the star opened up about his transformation into a feature film star: after all, he gained weight and used prosthetics to embody a 600-pound character.

Fraser, who hasn’t starred in a major Hollywood movie in years, revealed he wanted to “disappear” to bring the character to life.

“If there is no risk, then why bother? I want to learn from the people I work with at this point in my career. I’ve had so much variety, so many ups and downs, so what I want, in the second half of my time, is to feel like I’m contributing to the craft and learning from it. It’s a great opportunity. I wanted to disappear from the screen. I was hoping that I would become unrecognizable.

Aronofsky’s film is adapted from a play by Samuel D. Hunter which centers on the life of a 270-pound man named Charlie, who seeks to find his teenage daughter after abandoning his wife and son for a lover. gay. Charlie became morbidly obese after developing binge eating disorder to cope with the death of his lover.

Production will launch internationally on December 9. In Brazil, no date has been confirmed.

Aronofsky is known for his dense and critical films, which are often the subject of much controversy. His most recognized works are “Requiem for a Dream,” which brought together Marlon Wayans, Jennifer Connelly, Jared Leto and Ellen Burstyn in a storyline about drug addiction; ‘Black Swan’, with Natalie Portman and which earned him an Oscar nomination for best director; and ‘Mother!’, a psychological thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem.
