The tomato is spoken of as the emperor of the gardens of the world and in fact, this vegetable, due to its infinite goodness and beneficial properties, has climbed the ranking of the “best” vegetables, winning the podium in just a few years. The tomato lends itself to many recipes, the most common being salsa, salad, bruschetta and even very tasty juices. Initially viewed with suspicion for its fruits, which were considered to be ideally dangerous, the tomato, in the following years, was nonetheless admired and considered a typically exotic plant thanks to its malleability in the kitchen and its properties in herbal medicine.
Due to its medicinal properties, the tomato is recommended as an excellent intestinal stimulant, it is recommended for diabetics due to lack of sugar, for hypertensives (due to the low amount of salt), for overweight people, but also for patients suffering from gout and for all those who do not want to neglect their health. What interests us in this article is whether eating tomatoes every day can be harmful and in fact it is also known for its defects, let’s see what they are. The red fruit is contraindicated for those who suffer from gastric acidity, but not only: because it is rich in histamine, which is a biological bomb in all respects, capable of triggering allergic reactions, sometimes even very serious.
In this regard, many sensitive people complain of dermatitis simply after drying or cutting tomatoes, or after eating them in small quantities. The lectin present in tomato is able to interact with the gastrointestinal mucosa and trigger inflammation, impaired immune system and even nutrient malabsorption. In general, however, tomatoes do not have any particular side effects or contraindications and can therefore be safely consumed even by those who suffer from food problems or troublesome allergies.
Be careful, however. In case if you suffer from an allergy to nickel or nightshades (which also include potatoes, eggplants and peppers), then you should definitely stay away from tomatoes. And it is also known that they are capable of aggravating the already present symptoms of gastritis or irritable bowel syndrome, and it is for this reason that they must be consumed with extreme caution (perhaps depriving them skin and even seeds) in subjects suffering from these pathologies.
