According to Deadline, Halia Abdel-Meguid has been hired to script the live-action series based on the classic “Death Note,” which is being developed by Netflix.
She will also serve as executive producer on the project alongside “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer.
The new version will have nothing to do with the live-action movie released by the platform in 2017, which starred Nat Wolff.
No more casting details or how the adaptation will be known just yet, but it will be produced by Upside Down Pictures, a company recently founded by the Duffer brothers.
‘Death Note’ began to be published as a manga in 2003 telling the story of Light Yagami, a young man who finds a mysterious notebook. By writing someone’s name on it, that person dies within moments. With so much power in his hands, Light begins a plan to kill those who “deserve it”, but finds himself in Detective L’s crosshairs.
