Robert KingNetflix is a huge streaming empire that for the most part offers interesting productions that keep their promise to please us (albeit with some glaring flaws). However, the online platform also has an unfortunate history, so to speak, of canceling series which have fallen into popular taste and which have mobilized a legion of fans over the course of its few episodes, as it did. with the unexpected cancellation of the ‘Hit & Cours’ series today.
Between low ratings, fierce reviews or exorbitant budgets, the reasons which push Netflix to put an end to a large part of its original catalog are diverse, but they do not fail to disappoint us. And, unlike stories like the ones seen in “Sense 8” and “Anne with an E,” some of them don’t even see the light of day properly, being dropped shortly after a season.
And, with the recent cancellation of two more shows, CinePOP has separated a short list of 12 recent series that ended after a short cycle.
Check it out below and tell us which was your favorite:
COWBOY BEBOP (2021)
With touches of philosophy, deep and psychological dialogue, the anime ‘Cowboy Bepop‘ tells the story of a group of bounty hunters who travel in a spaceship called Bepop. And as they look for work, the conversations become even more interesting and thoughtful. The cast includes John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda, Elena Satine and Alex Hassell.
Enjoy watching:
The production, which shared the critics’ opinion with a 46% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, was posted on the streaming service less than a month ago. The reason for the cancellation was not disclosed. Remember, the original anime is also available on Netflix!
Netflix has canceled the beloved “Julie and the Phantoms Ghosts”, an international remake of the Brazilian children’s series “Julie and the Phantoms Ghosts”. In the plot, teenage Julie discovers her passion for music and life when she creates a group with a trio of ghosts.
It should be remembered that the original domestic production was a huge success and even won a nomination for Best Children’s Program at the International Emmy.
After the apocalypse plagues the zombie planet, teenage Josh decides to search the town for Sam, his missing girlfriend. To do this, he joins two of the school’s most misfit students: little Angelica and ex-bully Wesley. The series received a lukewarm critical reception and, as a result, did not have a large enough audience to warrant a second year.
Dr Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) enters a world of unspeakable horror when a mysterious illness turns his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more and more people transform, society splits into opposing camps, pitting normal people against the growing number of these “vampires”. Swann races against the clock to figure out what’s going on, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.
The series follows the monster hunter duo Fred and Deloris Allen who, after the death of Fred’s father, return to their hometown of New York State with their teenage sons Geoff and Viv. As the family adjusts, Fred and Deloris must hide their identity as members of a secret organization, and the hero duo quickly discover that their new small town setting is not as idyllic as it seems. .
GIRLS (2017)
The series is based on the trajectory of Sophia Amoruso, a struggling young woman who started her life selling old clothes on eBay and who, at 27, now owns a multi-million dollar brand based in Los Angeles. Using the novel of the same name as a medium, the production had everything to go well, but presented a narrative too superficial and bland to move audiences.
The horror ‘Marianne’ appeared quietly in the Netflix catalog and, shortly after its debut, it won over audiences hugely and introduced us to a competent, frightening, and very metalinguistic reach. In the plot, Emma (Victoire Du Bois) is a writer who has been plagued by nightmares about a witch named Marianne. The novelist then decides to use her books in an attempt to ward off the evil creature, but realizes that the characters come to life and is forced to return home and find out why.
Rising skater Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario) is withdrawn from competition after suffering a catastrophic fall. In order to pursue her career, but now together, she risks revealing a secret that could harm her whole life. Exploring several psychological themes, the season finale brought an incredible hook for the next year, which, in fact, will never happen
Although it was not originally produced by Netflix, the service acquired the rights to broadcast the US remake of “The Revenant”. In the series, the people of the small town of Caldwell see their lives cut short when recently deceased people or even decades away begin to come back to life without realizing their own deaths. Some of the returnees return to their acquaintances and try to pick up their lives where they left off and reintegrate into society as strange phenomena occur, which end up having both positive and negative consequences.
The serial adaptation of “The Fog,” one of Stephen King’s most famous novels, failed in virtually every aspect it intended to build. The result was disastrous and it did not even reach the audience that it needed to be renewed. In the plot, David Droyton, his son, and other residents of Bridgton, near New York, find themselves trapped in a supermarket when a mysterious fog sweeps through the city. When some of them try to leave, they are quickly devoured by monsters lurking in the fog.
Set in New York City in 1977, ‘The Get Down’ tells the story of how, on the brink of ruin and bankruptcy, the metropolis spawned a new musical movement in the Bronx, focused on black and marginalized minority youth. Unfortunately, the show’s high budget and not-so-strong ratings prevented its renewal for a second cycle.
Psychological Terror features Oscar nominee Naomi Watts as Jean Holloway, a psychologist who develops dangerously intimate relationships with relatives of her patients. Despite the interest and premise that reminds us of thrillers of the 1990s and 2000s, the monotonous plot has made the series a failure for critics and audiences alike.
