‘Black Panther 2’: Director Admits He Almost Abandoned Film After Chadwick Boseman’s Death

Ryan Coogler, the director of the two “Black Panther” films, has revealed how he nearly gave up his film career after the death of Chadwick Boseman, with whom he worked on the hero’s first film.

Recalling that Boseman passed away on August 28, 2020 after battling colon cancer.

“I was at a point where I thought, ‘I’m walking away from this business. I didn’t know if I could do another period film. [ou] another one from Black Panther, because it hurt a lot. I was like, ‘Man, how could I open up to feel like this again?’ said Coogler during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Coogler explained how he spent weeks reviewing footage of himself on set with Chadwick Boseman, because he considered it an important part of a film’s creative process: of his life. I decided it made more sense to continue.
