‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ | Moments to watch in the trailer

on

Released by surprise, the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrived this afternoon and has already garnered plenty of praise online. With a series of grandiose events, the film takes place in the Quantum Realm and will have Kang, The Conqueror, as its main antagonist.

The trailer is fully animated to the sound of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, by Elton John. This song was inspired by The Wizard of Oz, which features young Dorothy transported by a tornado to the dangerous and magical world of Oz, having to find the yellow brick road back home. More or less a summary of what the plot of the new Ant-Man movie will be. At the same time, she evokes composer Bernie Taupin’s dissatisfaction with the time of his career with Elton, which had taken astronomical directions and directly affected their lives. The lyrics are about missing the good old days, when there was optimism about the duo’s future. Which also seems to dialogue directly with the plot of the new film. With that in mind, CinePOP has separated the main points to pay attention to in the trailer. Check!

The trailer begins with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) reflecting on his current success, having started his “career” as a virtually anonymous superhero, whose biggest thrill in life was an arrest for a kick in a Billion-Dollar Company That Damaged Customers. . This point of fame for Scott after playing an instrumental role in reversing Thanos’ (Josh Brolin’s) deeds back in Avengers: Endgame (2019) bringing back the unenlightened has been touched on previously in shows like Ms. Marvel (2022) and She-Hulk: Defender of Heroes (2022). But so far, this Ant-Man hype has been shown in a very superficial way. And now, with him taking part in major events, having a line of licensed merchandise, and being treated like a celebrity, the film must deepen this shift in the hero’s life.

Have fun watching:

Or almost. That’s because the trailer also shows the hero getting some nice honors, like being honored at the Baskin-Robbins he was fired from in the first film, in one of the original feature’s best jokes. He is also seen confused with Spider-Man (Tom Holland), which shows that even though he is on the rise, Scott is still the same guy. This joke has been made before in the MCU, in the first Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), which seems to have some influence in this sequel.

The trailer follows and shows Cassie Lang, now played by Kathryn Newton, in her youth. His last appearance had been in Endgame, but without exploring much of what happened to him in the years that Scott disappeared. The film now shows that she seems to have worked with Pym technology, following in her father’s footsteps in science. It is even one of his devices that will send them into the quantum realm. The idea is to send her a signal, which panics Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), because she has been trapped there for decades and must have seen a lot.

And as the trailer indicates, after the fantastic quintet is sucked into the Quantum Realm, Scott and Cassie falling together, while Jan, Hank and Hope fall on the other side, Janet will serve as their guide and will likely have her secrets. revealed. , which is great, because it’s a character that has been explored very little so far. And as you can see as part of this “secret universe beneath ours”, the Quantum Realm derives a lot from the visual representation of the Guardians franchise. And as Endgame shows, the Quantum Realm has this different time passage, actually serving as a portal to other timelines.

At the same time, the trailer is keen to remind that the Quantum Realm also includes creatures and substances from our universe, as its basic concept introduced in the first film was to be a microscopic world. And those who remember the concept art of the second feature, probably managed to see some dropped references that were used here, such as tardigrades being used as “horses” and such.

Throughout the trailer, Jan says he has secrets he never told. Shortly after, it is possible to see an energy sphere manipulated by a not-so-threatening version of Kang (Jonathan Majors) and a tech city with ships and an army that appear to be commanded by a single type of energy. Initially, the technology looks a lot like Wakanda. However, it’s worth remembering that in the comics, Kang is the leader of a high-tech city formed with the technological advancements he has brought from long ago. Its name is Chronopolis and the city is powered by a power source called the Heart of the Eternal. It could be that this area of technology beyond the time shown in the trailer is Chronopolis.

Another interesting point is when Janet, in disguise, opens a door with luminous inscriptions. The trailer suggests it’s the door to an interdimensional bar, but the illuminated “letters” are very reminiscent of those used by the Eternals in Eternals (2021). And since his godlike abilities are the product of Celestial technology, it may have something to do with it.

Bill Murray then makes his first appearance in the MCU. His character hasn’t been revealed yet, but Bill himself has already said he’s a villain. Rumor has it that it could be Krylar, a villainous Hulk who has never stood out, who is in short a scientist who yearns for war on his micro-planet. Because he’s a character with little in-universe relevance, if it’s himself, it’s quite possible that Marvel will reinvent him and give Bill more freedom to work on another version of his own.

At the end of the trailer, we see the new costume of Wasp / Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), in the colors of the comics. Beside her, Scott appears right after taking a big beating. In the description of the teaser shown at D23, it was said that Scott would get beaten up a lot by Kang, who would say that he had already killed Avengers over time, but didn’t exactly remember an Ant- Man.

And then we see Kang’s first pitch with his comic book look. It appears again with the energy sphere seen in the army shown earlier. Next, the villain faces off against Ant-Man, in a moment much like the one depicted in the D23 trailer. On this occasion, he offers, in a threatening tone, his help to the hero to keep his relatives away from this distant kingdom. But Scott understands the tone and doesn’t fall for it too much. Most likely, the result of this will be a huge fight.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens February 16, 2023.
