“The Spectacular Spider-Man 2” turns 9! Marvel president wanted to “burn the script” so badly

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Threat of Electro” (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) turns 9 today, July 3rd.

The franchise was discontinued after the film’s commercial failure and got a second reboot.

In an email sent in 2012 that disclosed the big Sony “leak”, Marvel chairman Alan Fine explained to Tom Cohen (Marvel vice president of production, who serves as a go-between between them and Sony) all issues related to the sequence:

“I wanted to burn the script right after reading it,” he says.

Fine makes a list of mistakes the script made that ended up in the movie.

“This story is too dark, too depressing… I think it’s potentially too dangerous to undermine the important events of the first Spider-Man trilogy… I think it’s a mistake to deny the original trilogy in the canon of the character’s cinematic universe.
