‘La Brea’ Season 3 Is Renewed At NBC

Now that’s the kind of update we have been waiting for. Season 3 of La Brea has been renewed by NBC, with production set to begin in March 2023 in Australia. That means this season could be released by 2024.

The third season will have a total of six episodes. And we know that’s a lot less than in previous seasons. According to reports, the cast was provided a withdrawal from the show in exchange for making such a short season, and they accepted the offer.

The possible explanation for this could be a rising strike among Hollywood’s writers, directors, and actors. The union contract for the Writers Guild of America is set to expire in May 2023.

The series’ showrunner expressed optimism about a third season.

He said, “We did not have the pickup for Season 3 when we were writing the end of Season 2, but we were planning for success. As we were writing the last few episodes, we were setting up new stories that we would and we knew where we would pick up with them in Season 3.

That’s one of the things we’re doing. As we’re writing the end of Season 2, we’re also planning the beginning of Season 3. That goes hand-in-hand. We were hopeful that we would get the pickup, and ultimately, we did.

We didn’t know how many episodes or a lot of the details, at that time, but you’re always planning for success. You get new stuff thrown at you all the time and you have to pivot, but we’re always hopeful that there’ll be good news, and that’s what we’re trying for.”

‘La Brea’ Is Most Likely To End With Season 3

It’s a relief to know that there will be a third season. Unfortunately, it will be the last one. Season three will be the final season of La Brea.

There have also been rumors and discussions that the renewal may be withdrawn because the conclusion of season two was satisfactory. However, another season will most likely show us the characters ending.

The show’s showrunner, David Appelbaum, noted that they always knew how they wanted the finale to look.

He said, “I’ve always known what I wanted the final scene of the series to be. And I’ve always known that it would never leave the character’s minds, once they traveled through a portal to 10,000 B.C., that they wanted to get home and back to the lives that they came from.

There would be lots of detours, along the way, of surviving and making new friends and having new adventures, but the thought of getting home was always the ultimate end game for everyone.”

What To Expect From ‘La Brea’ Season 3?

There are a lot of possibilities that could take place in La Brea season three. In addition, the creator teased a little about it in an interview. He mentioned that there will be various types of stories and that they are brainstorming new ideas.

He teased, “I think so. As we’re getting into Season 3, we’re not gonna run directly to a portal. We’re gonna have different types of stories. The way of getting home through a portal has definitely been taken away.

But at the same time, they’re gonna want to get home, so there are gonna be new ideas and new roadblocks and opportunities coming up. The futuristic portal idea is something that we’re definitely gonna do different spins on.

That was definitely a Season 2 thing, so we’re definitely gonna try to mix it up, as we move forward. I think there’s a max portal limit. You’ve gotta try other things, and that’s our job, just to keep coming up with new story ideas.”

He also indicated that there will be a total of six episodes for the time being.

“It’s six episodes for now, but there might be more. And if they do offer more, we’re open to writing more. Nothing is definitive, at this point.”

Creator Of ‘La Brea’ Talked About The Possibilities After Season 3

There are also rumors that the story will continue with a new cast even if the series finale is shown. And the showrunner explained that they are currently focusing on the third season and creating a fitting end.

“Right now, we’re just really focused on this third season. As we get to the end, there are a lot of different options on the table, but we haven’t really committed to what the next season would look like. We’re really just planning this third season right now.”
