The new “Star Wars” could hit theaters in 2025

Recently it was confirmed that the ‘Star Wars’ saga will have a new movie, written by Damon Lindelof (‘Watchmen’, ‘The Leftovers’) and Justin Britt-Gibson, who wrote (‘The Strain’), a series horror film produced by Guillermo del Toro.

And, during the latest episode of The Hot Mic podcast, journalist Jeff Sneider (The Ankler) said the movie could hit theaters in December 2025 (via Star Wars News Net).

“I think it already has a release date! Calm down, I have to reason what I can say, but I think it’s gonna happen. I think it will be released in December 2025…I’ve been saying this since I reported [que o filme seria produzido por Lindelof]. I first mentioned this in March that Damon Lindeloff would be in charge of a movie in the ‘Star Wars’ saga.”

He continued:

“So it turns out he’s working with Justin Britt-Gibson, the co-writer. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is already on board to direct. I think it’s an interesting package, I think we’ll be seeing this movie for the 2025 Christmas season.”

Although nothing has been confirmed, Sneider has built a solid career in spreading assertive behind-the-scenes information about pop culture, which lends him some credibility.

Previously, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the plot of the next film will be set after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, which opens up the possibility of seeing the return of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and company.

However, the project will not be a sequel to the trilogy released between 2015 and 2019, but a standalone production that could generate an independent trilogy, if the first film is a success.

As of this writing, the script is still in development, so there aren’t many details, which means filming will likely take a while to get started.

In addition to this film, Lucasfilm is producing three more titles.

One of them is “Rogue Squadron,” which will be directed by Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman”), but remains without a premiere date after a production hiatus.

There are still two untitled projects left… One will be produced by Kevin Feige, with a screenplay by Michael Waldron (Loki), while Taika Waititi (“Thor: Love and Thunder”) will direct another, which has been in development for over of two years with screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns (‘1917’).

Recalling that the last feature film in the intergalactic saga was “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, released in 2019. Despite mixed reviews, the film grossed over $1.07 billion worldwide and won three Oscar nominations – Best Original Soundtrack, Best Visual Effects, and Best Sound Editing).
