Hit! Despite mixed reviews — a 40% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes — the Black Adam adaptation earned $67 million in its North American box office debut — making it the biggest release ever. Dwayne Johnson’s career as a solo frontman.
Internationally, the film is still grossing $73 million in 76 markets, making for a world premiere of $140 million.
For comparison, the result is 27% higher than the figures recorded by “Shazam!” in 2019.
“The success of ‘Black Adam’ is a dream come true. We worked there for 15 years, putting all our experience at the service of this project. And now we find that our hard work has been rewarded with the greatest start to our career. It’s an incredible feeling,” producer Hiram Garcia told Deadline.
Additionally, the DC Comics adaptation earned a B+ CinemaScore. The rating is the same as that of “Justice League”, “Joker”, “Suicide Squad” and “Wonder Woman 1984”.

Nearly 5,000 years after being gifted with the omnipotent powers of the Egyptian gods – and just as quickly arrested – Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
The film will also star Justice Society members Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Crusher (Noah Centineo), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell).
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (‘Águas Rasas’), the feature film will take place in the same universe as ‘Shazam!’.
