Removed the Marge Simpson mural that had gone around the world in hours. We are talking about the work called The Cut created by aleXsandro Palombo. The artist had depicted the iconic Marge cutting her hair to celebrate Mahsa Amini and the courage of Iranian women.

The mural had appeared in the city of Milan, right in front of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Today, however, Ansa announced that it had been turned off. Certainly, the work had caused a sensation even outside the Italian borders. The images had also reached the American television channel ABC News, which had given the news.

The same author of the book, aleXsandro Palombo, commented on the gesture, which he described as very serious. The artist said: “Censoring a work made in solidarity with Mahsa Amini and all Iranian women fighting for their freedom is a cowardly act, a gesture of cowardice. The fact that it took place in a democratic country like Italy is of absolute gravity, indicates the desire to stifle its deepest meaning. We will not be intimidated by this despicable gesture.”

The image of the cartoon character, holding a large lock of her blue hair, was a clear homage to Mahsa Amini. The story of the 22-year-old girl arrested and beaten to death by Iranian police has gone around the world, becoming a symbol of a very difficult situation for women living in the country.

The girl, in fact, met death because she had worn her hijab incorrectly, exposing a lock of hair. In Iran, it is recalled, the obligation to wear the veil was imposed in 1979 by Ayatollah Khomeini during the Islamic revolution. With the fresco dedicated to Marge Simpson, AleXsandro Palombo therefore aimed to raise public awareness of the social problem that cannot leave anyone indifferent. In fact, from the 90s, Palombo’s visionary art and creativity sparked important debates and reflections in a process of raising awareness through denunciation through art.
