REVOLTING! ‘The Little Mermaid’ Trailer Surpasses One Million Dislikes For One Pathetic Reason

Published

on

The long-awaited live-action “The Little Mermaid” won its thrilling first trailer shown during Disney D23, with our editor Renato Marafon in attendance.

Predictably, the video became the target of comments and hate from racist and bigoted people.

The video reached 1.1 million DISLIKES, despite having only 324,000 likes.

In addition, the number of views on the Disney channel did not reach 10 million. Compared to this trailer, “Secret Invasion” has been viewed nearly 13 million times.

The new adaptation of the classic story was already suffering attacks from more conservative people for bringing in Halle Bailey, a black girl, to play Ariel. Now the release of the trailer has sparked a wave of loathing and nasty comments, which destroy the derogatory words for the actress and singer for the fact that she is black and for the fact that they have no not choose a white person to play the mermaid.

Some netizens even tried to justify damaging comments by saying Bailey’s casting misrepresents the original Casa Mouse character, while others said the portrayal kills the classics.

I don’t see anything wrong with people being embarrassed for not being faithful to the original, myself I don’t care about not being faithful, for me the acting, the dialogues and the way the storyline is executed are worth much more, but there are those who care, yeah the person is right, if a black character changed +

I hope the next black panther will be blonde with blue eyes to see if you will defend the same

I don’t see it as racism, I see it as what I said before:
The “Disney Classics” are not “classics” for nothing.
You can’t change the features of a classic and expect everyone to love it. ++

Representativeness puts an end to the work

people don’t understand that it’s not racism it’s a bad characterization of a character, there’s no redheaded black people (natural), Ariel will always be white and redheaded, there’s Tiana who is black , would you be ok if they put a blank character?

Remember that the release of the film is scheduled for May 26, 2023.

The live-action adaptation of the classic story will make some changes to the main characters’ backstory, including the iconic villain Ursula (Melissa McCarthy).

The information indicates that the sea witch will be the aunt of Ariel (Bailey), something that had already been considered for the animated version of Disney. Incidentally, in the tale signed by Hans Christian Andersen, the witch has no name and does not have much importance in the story, having only appeared as the main antagonistic force in 1989.

The cast also includes Daveed Diggs, who will play Sebastian, Melissa McCarthy as the evil Ursula, Awkwafina (“Jumanji: The Next Phase”) as the hilarious Scuttle Seagull, Jacob Tremblay (“The Predator”) in the role of the iconic Flounder fish. Jonah Hauer-King (“On the Way Home”) as Prince Eric.

Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem (“Mother!”) will play King Triton. Zendaya, Keke Palmer and Chloe Bailey are slated to play Ariel’s sisters, while Gugu Mbatha-Raw is set to play Queen Athena. Jessica Alexander and Noma Dumezweni complete the cast, but no roles have yet been revealed.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the work features music from the original animated film and new music by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
