10 Movies That Didn’t Live Up To Expectations

Published

on

Every year, countless films are released that are on multiple lists around the world of premieres awaited by moviegoers. When a feature film opens, it doesn’t always manage to exceed expectations. With that in mind, and doing an exercise in recalling some titles, we’ve put together this list below with 10 movies that didn’t exceed expectations:

paper towns

There is always madness in love. But there is always a reason for madness. Based on the book by acclaimed author John Green and directed by Jake Schreier, Paper Towns is that sweet water movie that doesn’t seem to want to take any risks. Audiences who appreciate Green’s books deserved a deeper adaptation of the Fault in Our Stars author’s good work.

Have fun watching:

Rescue

No soldier is forgotten in the mind of the warrior. Written by Joe Russo (director of the last two films in the hit The Avengers franchise, alongside his brother Anthony) and directed by Sam Hargrave, making its theatrical debut, Rescue, a new action and explosion film from the almighty Netflix is a great choice of shots amid bombshells and well-executed action scenes. Russo’s weak script turns the film into an endless, dry, destructively paced chase. It’s a lot like Michael Bay’s Pop and Explosion movies. Everything is so repetitive that it takes a lot of sleep to get to the end paying attention to what is happening, because we already know that intuitively. A good movie with the same theme, “extraction”, is Proof of Life starring Russell Crowe.

dolittle

When charisma does not save. Dolittle has a stellar cast (Banderas, Martin Sheen, Downey Jr…) but none of that matters when the plot doesn’t evolve. It is not defined whether for an audience of all ages or for the most mature, the questions that should be deep, the result of the protagonist’s melancholy thought and the reasons for his trauma with the disappearance of his wife, are as little deeper than a swimming pool without the water. Unfortunately, the film is sleepy almost all the time, it would be worse if it weren’t for the powerful soundtrack by ace Danny Elfman that tries to turn meaningless visual metaphors into something epic. Sometimes it feels like you’re in a video game where the controls don’t work.

The truth

Based on a short screenplay by Ken Liu, acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda’s first overseas production, The Truth, nominated for a Golden Lion at Venice and screened at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival the same year, is a great series of arguments and situations involved in a family drama born from the gestures and actions of a bitter veteran actress who seeks conflict at all times. There’s a lot of subtlety to Koreeda’s handling, but the rich character depth of other films here is camouflaged in a single standout performance. It’s as if the melancholy runs through the plot in such a way as to render everything meaningless in the important definitions of the arcs.

Colossal

Presented at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, Colossal, written and directed by Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo is a highly imaginative film, which breathes abstraction at all times to tell a story about the disappointments of a protagonist in crisis. After a completely monotonous and dull first arc, the continuity of this saga towards the bizarre imagination has good moments but which never come to the conclusion that they correspond to the expectation created. This science fiction disguised as a psychological thriller with a touch of mystery will say a lot to some and nothing to others.

tomorrow’s war

The sleepy story of the invincible hero. The action feature The War of Tomorrow, starring Chris Pratt and Yvonne Strahovski, arrived on Amazon Prime Video in early July 2021. One of the things that bothers me the most about this project are the simplistic reasons for the broad contexts . The subject of family and relationships revolves around all arcs of the storyline, whether in the present or in the future. From the point of view of the protagonist with his daughter in two moments and with his father. The shots pile up along the way, it’s a contest to see which is more: shots or alien corridors. Favoring the action part, he seeks in his science fiction universe a certain originality but comes up against the mirrors of other franchises or even the feature film with Tom Cruise, Edge of Tomorrow. To say the least disappointing.

Everything will be alright

The only reason we are so attached to memories is that they don’t change, even if people have changed. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Wim Wenders, Every Thing Will Be Fine, in the original, is sadly one of those boring films that never seems to end. With a line of cinematic drama and with a cast in complete disharmony on stage, the feature is an almost total disappointment. The soundtrack, signed by ace Alexandre Desplat, is the best thing about the film. And when the score is the best thing about the movie, you know there are a lot of downsides to this story.

The dead don’t die

The follies of an uncontrollable scenario. Three years after directing one of his cinematic masterpieces, the fantastical Paterson, American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch returns to the big screen writing and directing a headless, headless film that attempts to metaphorically speak to the zombies but ends up being a sequence of bizarre scenes without any balance with an interesting story. Bringing together a well-known cast, such as: Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones and Tilda Swinton, The Dead Don’t Die is far from brilliant like other works by the famous director. . A big disappointment.

Thor: Love and Thunder

The comic spice that went over the top. Escaping the essence of one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most beloved characters, New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi takes us on a journey of low action and high comedy in the disappointing Thor: Love and Thunder. He had everything to be the great story of the Nordic warrior in cinema, a great villain, powerful tools of war, all of which ends up being left aside to focus too much on a deconstruction of the character. The comic vein in this phase that the protagonist goes through, rediscovering himself after exciting battles and losses, ends up taking over the film, a fact that may leave fans a little lost with the doors that open in his conclusions. .

yesterday

You know that incredibly missed goal under the post? Do you know that single baccalaureate you miss in basketball? So, you know this film which had everything to be unforgettable and which ends up falling into the sugary uniformity of one more love story among thousands? The work of the great Danny Boyle, Yesterday captivated audiences around the world for its beautifully crafted trailer and crazy story of resetting our beatlemaniac memories, wielding a world without some of our greatest references. I bet sociologists, philosophers all over the planet have been eagerly awaiting a hyper-deep debate about human existence and its needs. But as the cinema did very little, except for a great moment with a famous musician, Yesterday does not remain in our memories like the songs of the Liverpool quartet.
