Today we are talking about the most popular dish in our country: pasta. Italy is in fact considered the undisputed homeland of this product and for this reason it is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most consumed foods also in the whole world. There are many types of pasta that we find in the market and in the list of the most popular certainly cannot miss spaghetti, fusilli, macaroni, shellfish, half-sleeves, pennettes, tagliatelle and we could continue indefinitely.
Therefore, even the brands that market them are really many and in fact in the supermarket shelves we can find different brands, which differ in the way of production, for the flour used, for the container (which can be in plastic or cardboard) and many more. During this period, however, many complaints have unfortunately arrived, concerning the unexpected discovery of bugs even in the most famous and good brands. Therefore, we should not be surprised if sooner or later we find small animals infesting our pantries.
For most people, this obviously causes some disgust, but instead in some parts of the globe, such as India and Thailand, real dishes are prepared from these “little animals” of all kinds. But what are these discoveries due to? Let’s see this together. The so-called “little animals” thrive in pasta for a valid reason: they are caused by various pests that tend to lay their eggs in cereal. Even if the wheat is carefully cleaned before being processed, this process does not always manage to eliminate all the impurities present and therefore all the eggs could not be destroyed during the preparation phases of our pasta.
Once hatched from the eggs, worms emerge which later turn into butterflies. The most famous pasta insect, however, is the Tenebrio Molitor, which is capable of laying up to a maximum of 600 eggs in just two or three days. And how can we do to prevent this problem? Or eliminate them when they have already manifested? Here’s how. First of all, it is necessary to divide cereals and pasta and carefully check the entire pantry, clean it with extreme care without using chemicals and using only hot water and vinegar. Finally, when everything has been disinfected, it is advisable to place small bay leaves in all the corners of the pantry which will keep these annoying animals away.
