Wow! ‘Minions 2’ Surpasses $900 Million at the Global Box Office

Hit! The sequel “Minions 2: Rise of Gru” managed to pass the impressive mark of US$900 million at the worldwide box office.

Production surpassed ‘Batman’ (US$770.8 million), entering the TOP 4 of the biggest box office of the year, behind only ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ (US$1.35 billion), ” Jurassic World: Dominion” ($960 million) and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ($954.8 million).

The animation is expected to top the total box office of “Doctor Strange 2” next week, with a strong chance of topping “Jurassic World 3” soon after.

In the United States, the film earned $333.4 million, making it the first animation to surpass $300 million domestically following the COVID pandemic. In the international market, it was $570.4 million.

In total, production already amounts to 905 million US dollars worldwide.

It should be recalled that ‘Minions 2’ opened with $127.4 million in North American theaters – the largest opening for an animation after the quarantine period -, breaking the record of ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon ‘ ($115.8 million) for Independence Day.

Directed by Kyle Balda, Brad Ableson, and Jonathan del Val, the animation also features the voices of Kevin Hart, with Margot Robbie, Dave Bautista, and Pierre Coffin rounding out the cast.
